earlobe repair
Piercing the ears occasionally causes the earlobe to tear. Another contributing factor to tearing is the size, style and weight of an earring which can stretch the earlobe opening; also, large earrings that dangle can get caught on clothing or grasped by a child. The result of these incidents may be a partially or completely torn earlobe. Repairing this tear is performed in our office using a local anesthetic. The procedure consists of suturing the edges of the tear to repair the earlobe. The stitches are removed in a week. If desired, re-piercing can be accomplished approximately three months after the earlobe has been repaired.
